When most people hear “NFT,” they think of digital art or profile pictures. That was my first impression too. But after getting into NFTs through games, I realised they stretch far beyond collectibles. They’re about ownership, access, and utility, and that opens up possibilities you probably wouldn’t expect.

My NFT Journey
Back in 2021, I started exploring NFTs through gaming. First came Axie Infinity, where the creatures you battled and bred were NFTs you actually owned. Later, I joined the hype around Mavia, a blockchain game backed by a strong team and big-name investors.
Buying in wasn’t simple. I had to sign up early and complete tasks just for the chance to buy. I managed to snag one for $785.81. A year later, the team launched their token and rewarded holders with an airdrop worth about $2,000. I sold early, but if I had waited, I could have doubled that. Today, that same NFT is worth about $81.34, a reminder that the NFT world can be rewarding but also risky.
This is snapshot from my wallet:

That experience taught me something important: NFTs aren’t just about pictures or hype. They can hold value, unlock access, and even shape new opportunities.
Real-Life NFT Use Cases
Here are some surprising ways NFTs are being used right now:
- Tickets & Events – Imagine getting an NFT ticket for a Coldplay concert in Manila. Instead of a QR code that can be copied, your NFT proves you’re the real ticket holder and could even come with a digital souvenir. Ticketmaster has already tested this abroad.
- Memberships & Communities – Local NFT groups in the Philippines already use tokens as “passes” for private Discords and meetups. It’s like being part of a barkada with a digital membership card.
- Real Estate & Property – In nearby Singapore and Hong Kong, companies are experimenting with NFT property deeds. If this reaches the PH, it could help cut down paperwork delays in buying or transferring land titles.
- Education & Certification – Some Philippine universities are exploring blockchain records for diplomas. NFT certificates could make it easier for OFWs or jobseekers to prove their credentials abroad without worrying about fake papers.
- Brand Loyalty & Rewards – Picture Starbucks PH or Jollibee giving NFT collectibles that unlock discounts or freebies. Starbucks has already started this abroad, and PH branches could easily follow.
Why This Matters
NFTs are more than just collectibles. They’re about proving ownership, unlocking access, and making everyday transactions smoother. My own ups and downs with Axie and Mavia showed me both the risks and the potential, and that same potential is now spreading to industries we all use every day.
Final Bite:
NFTs aren’t just digital art. They can be tickets, keys, or even proof of your education. They’re reshaping how we think about ownership and access and this is only the beginning.
That’s your sneak preview into the world of NFTs. And remember, this is only Day 22. We’re still far from 100 days, and the rabbit hole goes much deeper.
